Progressive Lenses
Easy adaptation. Confident comfort. Wide fields of vision.
Whether fitted in a ready-to-wear frame or a custom creation signed by Marie-Sophie Dion, Hoya progressive lenses are designed to deliver optimal visual comfort, precisely adapted to your lifestyle, habits, and specific vision-correction needs.
What is a progressive lens?
Also called multifocal lenses, progressive lenses correct distance, intermediate, and near vision in a single pair of glasses. They offer a smooth transition between the different viewing zones with no visible line. Created for evolving vision needs, they are particularly recommended for people with presbyopia, an age-related condition that makes near vision more difficult. With progressive lenses, you enjoy clear vision in every situation, without having to switch between multiple pairs.
How do progressive lenses work?
Progressive lenses combine three optical zones in one lens. The upper area corrects distance vision, ideal for driving or looking far away. The intermediate zone is designed for mid-range vision, such as a computer screen or anything at arm’s length. The lower area supports reading and close-up tasks. The transition between zones is gentle, achieved through a gradual change in lens power.
Who are progressive glasses for?
Progressive lenses are ideal for:
- People aged 40+ who want to correct presbyopia without sacrificing style or comfort.
- Anyone who switches regularly between a screen and a book, then back to daily activities.
- Anyone who wants crisp, effortless vision in every situation.

Choosing the right type of progressive lenses
At the Eyewear Bar, we offer three advanced progressive-lens options to suit your vision needs, lifestyle, and budget.
Here is an overview of the three most popular options:
-
Lifestyle
- Ergonomic, modern design based on five precise measurements for wider viewing zones
- Available in three versions: Indoor, Urban, Outdoor
- Soft transitions between zones to reduce “rocking” sensation while moving
- Binocular Harmonization Technology to help in cases of anisometropia
Adaptation time: very fast
Hoya, the most durable lenses in the world
Hoya eyeglass lenses (Japan) are distinguished by exceptional hardness: during resistance tests carried out at the University of Montreal, they surpassed all other lens companies, Essilor, Nikon, Zeiss, etc... offering durable protection against everyday scratches.
Thanks to their high-performance anti-reflective coating, Hoya lenses resist heat and maintain a clear and intact surface, while many other competing anti-reflective coatings become damaged, degraded or marked under the effect of high temperatures.
Progressive Lenses FAQ
-
What is the difference between degressive and progressive lenses?
Degressive (also called “office” or “near-variable focus”) lenses have two vision zones: intermediate and near. Progressive lenses include distance, intermediate, and near zones in one pair for comfortable vision at all distances.
-
How long does it take to adapt to progressive lenses?
A short adjustment period is normal, and many people adapt instantly. Depending on the person, it can take from about 5 minutes up to a day. Proper measurements and precise adjustments help ensure a smooth, comfortable transition.
-
Are progressive lenses suitable for computer work?
Yes. Progressive lenses provide clear vision at every distance, including screens. If you spend many hours at the computer or need a wider near or intermediate area, we often recommend a second pair specifically for proximity or office tasks (called degressive lenses), for extra comfort.
-
Can progressive lenses be fitted in any frame?
The vast majority of our frames can accommodate progressive lenses. During your styling session at Bar à Lunettes, our experts will guide you to the models best adapted to your visual needs and personal style.
-
Can progressive lenses be tinted or photochromic?
Absolutely. Progressive lenses can be made with photochromic treatment that adapts to light, or with a sun tint to create progressive sunglasses. Enjoy progressive comfort indoors and out.
-
Do I need a recent eye exam to order progressive lenses?
Yes. A recent prescription (ideally less than 12 months old) is needed to design progressive lenses perfectly tailored to your current vision. If yours is not up to date, our optometrists can perform the exam in-store or refer you to a specialist.
The importance of a recent eye exam
Comfortable, well-adapted progressive lenses start with a comprehensive eye exam.
At Bar à Lunettes, our optometrists assess your vision with care, taking into account your posture, visual field, and specific needs. This exam is essential to ensure precise adjustments that fit seamlessly into your daily life.
