Why Have an Eye Examination?
A thorough eye examination can take from 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the extent of the tests you undergo. If all your results are normal, your diagnosis will look like this:
- Your vision is approximately 20/20 without correction.
- Your peripheral vision is broad and accurate.
- Your eyes have the ability to identify colors.
- The structure of your eye tissues appears normal.
- Eye pressure is normal.
- No diseases are detected.

The Process of Your Optometry Examination
During your first eye examination, the optometrist will take a complete family history, paying special attention to chronic illnesses and any family members who have had eye diseases. If you wear contact lenses, you will be asked to remove them as well as your glasses for analysis. This allows for a comparison between the power of your old lenses and the new results.

Tests Performed During Your Eye Exam
Among others, an optometric examination includes:
- Visual acuity test
- Checking the muscle strength of the eyes
- Color blindness screening test
- Refraction assessment
- Observation of the cornea, sclera, eyelids, and their hydration
- Peripheral visual field test
- Glaucoma screening (pressure)
- Retina observation
